Types of Headphones 

Many people consider headphones to be an essential piece of equipment for working out, as well as other times when one wants to listen to audio without disturbing those around them. Music and other audio entertainment are very popular motivators when working out, especially when doing routine exercises such as using a treadmill or elliptical machine or walking or running outdoors.

In order to get the audio from the personal audio device such as iPod, mp3 player, or portable CD player, headphones are needed. The intensity level of one’s exercise will determine the type of headphones that will work best.

Most personal audio devices come with a set of ear buds, which insert into the ear. Runners often find that these ear buds do not stay in the ears as well and prefer a style of headphone that combines an ear bud with an over-ear piece that helps keep the headphones secure.

Another popular type of headphones is the noise-cancelling version. These headphones are designed to keep out excess noise in the environment around the wearer, and some more expensive versions can even reduce the amount of noise that the wearer hears when wearing the headphones.

These noise-cancelling headphones are an excellent option for people who spend a lot of time traveling on public transportation, whether planes, trains, or the subway, as they create a quieter environment in which to read or rest.

Some headphones styles are designed to fit into each ear, and are held together by two thin wires that drape down the side of the face and attach to each other under the chin. Another wire then extends into the audio player’s headphone jack.

Other headphones are held together by a piece of plastic that reaches over the head, joining the two earpieces together. Again, the style of headphones chosen is simply a personal preference. 

Headphones can be purchased at any electronics store. Many people like the look of the traditional white ear buds that come with iPods; if you are looking for either a replacement version or just this style in general, they can be purchased from Apple stores, as well as authorized Apple equipment retailers.

However, there are many other styles available, including wireless TV headphones for use in your home. Electronics stores such as Best Buy are good places to go for headphones, as are discount retailers that carry electronics, such as Target and Wal-Mart. There are many stores online from which you can purchase headphones as well, often at a cheaper price.
